Week of September 18, 2017
What an amazing week!  This week we attended Mass together for the first time.  I’m so proud of the great job everyone did participating in the Mass by paying attention to Father, singing songs, and praying.  On Thursday Fr. Pfeiffer talked to us about parts of the Mass.  He explained different areas of the Sanctuary – the altar table, Tabernacle, ambo, Baptismal font, and the priest chair.  We started the week with Talk Like a Pirate Day.  We read lots of pirate books and talked like pirates.  We completed our first Meet the SuperKids book, Cass. Be sure to sign into the SuperKids app so your child can work on newly acquired skills.

Book Club --K/1st grade meet every Wednesday started Thursday, October 12th from 3:00-3:45.  There is no charge for the Club, but we do need parents to participate by signing up to bring a snack for everyone one time.  Please see the separate letter in your child’s Tiger folder.

Religion:  This week we learned that the beauty and wonder God created is all around us.  We are learning to appreciate and praise the beauty in God’s world.
Language Arts:  This week we continued working with the /o/ sound at the beginning of a word.  We had fun creating our own odd animals and making a book of odd animals.  We started reading My Father’s Dragon by Ruth Giles Gannett.
Math:  This week we continued working on reading, writing and counting to 5.  We are also listening to word problems that have us adding and subtracting to 5.  We are doing a really nice job of counting by 1’s.  Please continue to work with your child counting by 10’s.
Science & Social Studies:  This week we enjoyed reading the book I Went Walking by Sue Williams.  We were inspired to take a walk around the block and make observations in order to write our own version of the book.  We hope to complete our books next week.

Week of September 11, 2017

A BIG thank you to all the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles …. that were able to attend Open House.  It was so nice to talk with so many of you.  This week we had our first visit to the Library.  Mrs. Children read us a story and we learned where some of our favorite books are located in the library.  We can check out a book every week, as long as we bring back the previous week’s book.  We continued to work together on ways to be a good friend, and how we can help each other learn.  Be sure to check out pictures on our blog of us during cooperative activities.  We built puzzles, read books, and figured out math problems using cubes.

Don’t forget to send your child’s towel and bag back on Monday!

Religion:  This week we learned about Gods gifts of day, night and creation of the sky.  We also learned that God created the word because of love for life and beauty.
Language Arts:  We continued our first reading/writing book focused on the sound letter C makes.  Please continue to work with your child on writing their capital and lowercase “c”, as well as their name.  Your child will be coming home next week with a reading book each night.  Monday through Thursday are reading group books that we read in class and then the books come home so you can practice reading with them.  Please be sure to RETURN THE BOOK EVERY DAY.  We need them the next day for guided reading.  On Friday’s your child will bring home a book of their choice to enjoy over the weekend.  Be sure look for your SuperKids e-mail this weekend so your child can continue to practice reading!  Initially only books will show up, but as we continue learning sounds, games will appear to reinforce skills we are learning.
Math:  This week we continued to work on counting and writing numbers 2, 3 and 4.   We are counting to 30, and started practicing counting by 10’s.
Social Studies:  We continued working on celebrating our differences and similarities.  We read books and discussed how to be a good friend and how to share.
