Week of
September 19, 2016
What an amazing week! This week we attended Mass together for the
first time. I’m so proud of the great
job everyone did participating in the Mass by paying attention to Father,
singing songs, and praying. On Thursday
Fr. Pfeiffer talked to us about parts of the Mass. He explained different areas of the Sanctuary
– the altar table, Tabernacle, ambo, Baptismal font, and the priest chair. We started the week with Talk Like a Pirate Day. We
read lots of pirate books and talked like pirates. We had a great time walking to Fire Station
#13. The firemen showed us the
firehouse, ambulance, and fire engine.
Everyone had a chance to sit in the fire truck. We learned about the importance of fire
safety. If our clothes are on fire we
stop, drop and roll. We also learned
that it is important to have a family plan in case of emergency. The most important thing to do if your house
is on fire is to leave immediately. The
firemen also suited up and showed us how they look for people in houses and
reminded us not to be afraid and never hide.
Walk-a-thon- This is our biggest fundraiser of the
year. We will be walking on Friday,
October 21, 2016 at 1:15. Be sure to
order your walk-a-thon t-shirt! Parent
volunteers to walk with our class are always welcome.
Book Club --K/1st
grade meet every Wednesday from 3:00-3:45.
There is no charge for the Club, but we do need parents to participate
by signing up to bring a snack for everyone one time. Please see the separate letter in your
child’s Tiger folder.
Religion: This week we continued learning about how God
created animals and all his wonderful gifts to us.
Language Arts: This week we continued working with the /o/
sound at the beginning of a word. We had
fun creating our own odd animals and making a book of odd animals. We started reading The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo.
Math: This week we continued working on reading,
writing and counting to 5. We are also
listening to word problems that have us adding and subtracting to 5. We are doing a really nice job of counting by
1’s. Please continue to work with your
child counting by 10’s.
Science & Social Studies: This week we enjoyed reading the
book I Went Walking by Sue
Williams. We were inspired to take a
walk around the block and make observations in order to write our own version
of the book. We hope to complete our
books next week.
COMING UP …
Next week a calendar and letter explaining Book It!
will be coming home. Each month a
calendar will come home. Fill in each
day that your child reads. At the end of
the month return the calendar (signed) and your child will receive a coupon for
a free Pizza Hut personal pan pizza.
Language Arts: Continue working on writing our names
correctly; working with words that begin with the G/g sound; rhyming words;
writing and illustrating a nature book.
Math: Counting and writing numbers 6-7.
