Week of
September 5, 2016
This was another busy week of learning new
routines. We did a great job learning
how to get milk and hot lunches. We have
been working hard to use polite words when being served, such as “Yes please”
and “No thank you”. This was a fun week
to be a student at Saint Paul. We opened
a time capsule that was left for us 10 years ago! We enjoyed seeing pictures of teachers that
are still at St. Paul, and many of our students’ older siblings. They also left us newspapers, ads, lists of
popular movies, music, and church bulletins.
We continued to work together on ways to be a good friend, and how we
can help each other learn. Be sure to
check out pictures on our blog of us during cooperative activities. We built puzzles, read books, and figured out
math problems using cubes. Our class pet
has joined us – Squirtle the Turtle. He
loves when anyone reads to him!
Please remember that your child needs a snack
every day. It is a long time between
breakfast and lunch for our young learners.
If you are unable to provide snacks on a daily basis, please contact me
directly so we can make other arrangements.
Religion: This week we learned about Gods gifts of day,
night and creation of the sky. We also
learned that God created the word because of love for life and beauty.
Language Arts: We continued our first reading/writing book
focused on the sound letter C makes.
Please continue to work with your child on writing their capital and
lowercase “c”, as well as their name. Your
child will be coming home with a reading book each night. Monday through Thursday are reading group
books that we read in class and then the books come home so you can practice
reading with them. Please be sure to RETURN THE BOOK EVERY DAY. We need them the next day for guided
reading. On Friday’s your child will
bring home a book of their choice to enjoy over the weekend. We also learned how to read wordless picture
books. Be sure look for your SuperKids
e-mail this weekend so your child can continue to practice reading!
Math: This week we continued to work on counting and
writing numbers 2, 3 and 4. We are counting
to 30, and started practicing counting by 10’s.
Social Studies: We read Flat
Stanley by Jeff Brown and then created our own Flat Stanley. We had lots of conversation about what we
would do if we were as ‘flat as a pancake’.
On Thursday information was sent home in your child’s Tiger folder with
information about how to participate in our class tracking Flat Stanley’s adventures.
