Week of February 6, 2017
We had so much fun celebrating the 100th
day of school! We counted … and counted
… and counted. We even made a chart
showing how we can count by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s.
We read books and sang the 100 Days song. We drew pictures and wrote about what we will
look like when we are 100 years old.
This week we finished our unit on insects. We learned that an insect is a bug, but not
all bugs are insects. Insects have six
legs, three body parts (head, thorax, abdomen), and an exoskeleton. We finished our studies by watching the movie
A Bugs Life, with popcorn and M&Ms,
of course!
Religion: This week
we learned that there are signs of God’s love all around us. We appreciate and support these signs. We also discovered that Jesus is the greatest
sign of God’s love.
Language Arts: This week we worked with E/e/ at the
beginning and in the middle of words.
Our vocabulary focus words this week were: riddle, sledding. We focused on increasing our comprehension
skills by discussing setting and using prior knowledge to infer information we
hear in a story. We also discussed the
difference between fiction and non-fiction.
We finished reading our class read aloud, Elmer and the Dragon, the second of a three book series. We then started the last book, The Dragons of Blueland. Ask your child how Elmer got home from rescuing
the baby dragon.
Math: This week
we continued working with problem solving by creating and solving addition
problems. We worked a lot with the
commutative property applies to addition (2 + 3 = 5 the same as 3 + 2 =
5). We are doing a great job counting by
5’s, and we are working hard at counting backward from 20.
