Week of January 15, 2018
We had a really fun week learning about Martin
Luther King, Jr. and his ideals. We have
been working on appreciating how much we are alike and how our differences make
us each special. We looked at children
from around the world and compared how many things they do that are the same as
what we do – like play games, go to school and have friends and families. We had a great time using sparkly puffy paint
to make snowmen. We each painted a
snowman, but they were each unique – like each of us!
Religion: This week
we learned that we should appreciate our family members and what they can teach
us. We realized that we can be teachers,
too.
Language Arts: This week we worked on comparing E, F; e and
c. We practiced blending sounds to
decode words. We used illustrations to assist
us in decoding words. We created word
families -et, -ed, and -ell. The
comprehension strategies we practiced included:
use prior knowledge and using picture clues.
Math: This week
we continued working with problem solving by creating and solving addition
problems. We used number vests to create
equations, and we practiced using cube trains to solve addition equations. Please continue to practice counting on from
a given number. We learned that when
solving an addition equation we can put the greater number in our head, and
then count on with the smaller number to solve the problem.
COMING UP:
Reading: We will be
meeting our last SuperKid friend – HotRod.
We will be comparing letter-sound correspondence for I, L. F, E, and H.
Math: We
will be solving addition word problems within 10.
