Week
of October 17, 2016
A HUGE thank you to Danae Williams who has agreed
to be our room mother! Please contact
her directly with any questions about our Halloween Party. You will be hearing from her about other
events throughout the year. We really
enjoyed painting pictures this week. We
read a book called …Ish by Peter H.
Reynolds. Sometimes children get overly
concerned about drawing things “just right”.
In the book …Ish Peter
explains that we shouldn’t get hung up on making our art perfect, but rather
how we see things and if we are happy with our work that’s what matters. The class did a great job painting and making
up creative titles for the work. If you
have an opportunity to visit, check out our paintings outside our
classroom. Please be aware that not all
art will be sent home throughout the year.
I save some pieces for our Art Show in May.
Religion: This week we learned about Noah and the
Ark. We talked about how God we should
be thankful for the gifts of God’s creation.
God created each of us and gave us gifts. We should celebrate our uniqueness and
remember that God’s love makes them special.
Language Arts: This week we worked with beginning and end
/d/ sound words. We met a new friend,
Doc. She likes to build and repair
things. We worked with vocabulary words:
swaying, hunched up, and swooping by reading poetry. The comprehension skill we worked on was using illustrations to help understand a story.
Math: This week we continued working with “same
as”, “greater than” and “less than”. We
are working hard at being able to recall what number comes before and after
another, without having to start counting at 1 each time. This has been a very busy week learning lots
of different types of math games. We are
working hard with number sense (our 100s chart is helpful), 1-to-1
correspondence (board games work great) and learning about “greater than”,
“less than” and the “same as” (card games help).
Social Studies: This week we learned about what
responsibilities mean. We talked about
how some responsibilities are different and some are the same at home and
school. We all agreed
that as continue to grow up we can handle more responsibilities.
COMING UP …
The Halloween Parade will start at 1:15. We will walk around the block and then return
to our classroom for a Halloween party.
Please keep in mind that students may not use any weapons as props with
their costumes. Your child needs to wear
their regular school uniform to school and we will change into our costumes
after quiet time. Please do not send
make up unless you will be here to apply it.
Language Arts: We will continue working with beginning and
ending d/d/. We will be reading quite a
few books about pumpkins, seeds and plants.
Math: We will be working on representing, counting
and writing numbers 6-9.
