Week of September 26, 2016
This has been such a fun week.  We have been working hard creating our own I Went Walking books based on our walk around the block last week.  We are doing a good job writing and illustrating the pages to match the words.  This was the first week we experienced indoor recess.  It was great getting out all the building toys and watching how creative and imaginative the kids worked together.

Book-it!  Earlier this week an October calendar for Book It! was sent home.  Each month a calendar will come home.  Fill in each day that your child reads.  At the end of the month return the calendar (signed) and your child will receive a coupon for a free Pizza Hut personal pan pizza.

Walk-a-thon- This is our biggest fundraiser of the year.  Each student needs to bring in at least $50.00 in donations.  We will be walking on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 1:15.  Be sure to order your walk-a-thon t-shirt!  These shirts can be worn in place of the orange gym t-shirts.  Parent volunteers to walk with our class are always welcome.

Religion:  This week we learned about and made our own Rosary.  Fr. Pfeiffer blessed our Rosary’s.  We will be using them every day during October, the Month of the Holy Rosary.
Language Arts:  This week we worked with beginning /g/ sound words.  We met a new friend – Golly the dog.  The comprehension skills we worked on were recognizing plot, understanding characters, and determining important ideas.
Math:  This week we took our first test.  We will review your child’s results at our conference next week.  We continued working on reading, writing and counting to 5.  Please continue to work with your child counting by 10’s.
Science:   This week we learned about rainbows and ROY G BIV.   ROY G BIV stands for the colors of the rainbow – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet.  We enjoyed looking at all the colors by using our special glasses and a prism.

COMING UP …
Thursday is our student-led conferences.  You should have received a confirmation letter earlier this week.  Your child needs to attend the conference as they will be taking you through their day.  It is likely that other children and parents will be in the room during our time together.  Please keep in mind that if you would like to discuss a sensitive situation we can meet at a different time.
