Week of March 13, 2017
Well
this turned out to be a really quick week!
Even though we had two unexpected snow days, we accomplished quite a
bit. We wrapped up our studies of our
five senses. Your child should be able
to tell you each of their senses and how we use them. We
had so much fun celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day on Friday! We read stories about shamrocks and
leprechauns. In Religion class we even
learned that there was a real Saint Patrick!
We started a new read-aloud with our 4th grade friends. We are reading the Cricket in Times Square. It
is a Newbery Honor Book about a streetwise city mouse.
Language
Arts: This week
we continued blended sounds to decode words, practicing encoding words
beginning and ending with B/b/ sounds. Our
weekly reading books will be adventures our SuperKid friends have. Please practice reading the story with your
child each night. The books need to be returned to school every day until we put a
sticker on it. Typically we will
get a new story each Monday. Once
everyone in the reading group can fluently read the story, we will get a new
book.
Math: This week we continued working with taking
away. Subtraction is a bit more
difficult and everyone can use as much practice as possible. Consider playing a card game by dealing two
cards to each player. The two cards are
then subtracted from each other, and the person with the greater number wins
all the cards.
COMING UP:
