of March 6, 2017
We had a very busy week in Kindergarten! We have had a lot of fun exploring our
senses. This week we focused on touch,
hearing, and sight. We really used our
sense of sight when we visited the Akron Art Museum with our 3rd and
4th grade friends. Our class
explored Art Recipes: Line, Shape &Color. We learned about these three important art
elements and how artists use them to create a wide variety of “flavors” and
“visual treats.” We started reading Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. We are having fun learning about life on a
farm. Ask your child about Wilbur and
his friend Charlotte.
Religion: This week we that Jesus is a friend who
welcomes new friends. We understand that
Jesus is our friend.
Language
Arts: This week
we blended sounds to decode words, practicing encoding words beginning and
ending with B/b/ sounds. We practiced
adding “s” to the end of words and understanding that the plural of words means
any quantity more than one. We have been
practicing using our skills of segmenting sounds to help us read and spell
words. We worked on our comprehension
strategies using predictions by generating questions, draw conclusions, using
prior knowledge, and understanding characters.
Math: This week we continued using expressions to
represent subtraction within 5. We are
using 10-frames and counters to solve subtraction problems. We used ourselves to use the strategy “act
it out” to understand some of the equations we are solving.
