Week of October 23, 2017
What an AMAZING week!  Fire Station #13 visited us this week.  The firemen showed us a fire engine.  We learned about the importance of fire safety.  If our clothes are on fire we stop, drop and roll.  We also learned that it is important to have a family plan in case of a fire emergency.  The most important thing to do if your house is on fire is to leave immediately.  The firemen also suited up and showed us how they look for people in houses and reminded us not to be afraid and never hide.
A HUGE thank you to all the parents/grandparents that helped us out at Kingsway Farm.  Although it was a little chilly, it was a beautiful fall day.  We couldn’t decide what we liked best about our trip – being able to pick our own pumpkins, the tractor ride, face painting, playing in the barn, or feeding the animals!
We had so much fun during our Halloween parade and party.  A BIG thank you to everyone that contributed to our Halloween Party.  Ms. Hardy did an awesome job!

ROSARY – October has been the month of the Holy Rosary.  I am so proud of how well the class has been doing praying a decade each morning.  Their Rosary’s will be coming home on Tuesday.  They are not toys or bracelets.  They are to be used to pray.  If you do not want to keep the Rosary, please return it to school.

Religion:  This week we deepened our awareness of the talents God has given each of us.  We praise God for the talents He has given us.  We also talked about different feelings and how it is okay for us to feel whatever feelings we have.
Language Arts:  This week we continued working with beginning and end /d/ sound words.  We have also been blending sounds at the beginning and ending of words to help us decode new words.  We focused on vocabulary words: odd, inventions.  The comprehension skill we worked on were using cause and effect and visualizing strategies.
Math:  This week we worked on representing, counting and writing the number 6.  We moved from using a 5-frame to using a 10-frame.  We are using cubes (cube trains) to represent numbers.  We have also been working on recognizing and creating patterns.  Patterns can be created using the shape or color of an object.
Science:   This week we learned about pumpkins.  We learned that the seeds we scooped out of our pumpkin we could eat, but we could also plant them, and another pumpkin will grow.  We also learned that when pumpkins sprout from the ground jagged, prickly leaves grow on twisty vines that wander in all directions.  Where we see flowers, we learned that they will wilt, and a small green knob will appear.  This will eventually grow and become a pumpkin.

COMING UP …
Language Arts:  We will be working with beginning and ending S/s/ sounds.

Kingsway Pumpkin Farm!

We started our day at the farm by Mr. McGregor and his farm friends.
They explained how pumpkins grow.

The train ride around the farm was so much fun!

We all found our way out of the maze.

Face painting!

We met the sweetest, softest, little bunny.

We had lots of fun playing in the corn pit.

Of course, the corn in our shoes wasn't much fun!

Playing in the hay bales was lots of fun!

Feeding the animals!!
Goats, sheep, cows, chickens, pigs...

We took a hayride to the pumpkin patch and picked our own pumpkins!

So much fun, but so exhausting!
