Week
of October 2, 2017
This has been such a fun week. We worked very hard creating our own I Went Walking books based on our walk
around the block last week. We did a
good job writing and illustrating the pages to match the words. Thank you to all the parents that
participated in our Student-Led Conferences.
I hope you enjoyed your child giving you a taste of all the fun things
we do in our classroom – they were quite excited to sing to you and show you
around. It was also great having an
opportunity to meet with each of you. Please
remember that your child has homework Monday-Thursday. If you see a paper
WITHOUT a score on it – it’s probably homework J. On Friday your child should be
bringing home a classroom book to enjoy reading with you over the weekend.
Book-it! Earlier this week an October calendar for
Book It! was sent home. Each month a
calendar will come home. Fill in each
day that your child reads. At the end of
the month return the calendar (signed) and your child will receive a coupon for
a free Pizza Hut personal pan pizza.
Religion: This week we continued learning about how God
created animals and all his wonderful gifts to us. We learned about Noah and God’s promise of
the rainbow.
Language Arts: This week we worked with beginning /g/ sound
words. We met a new friend – Golly the
dog. The comprehension skills we worked
on were recognizing plot, understanding characters, and
determining important ideas. This week we took
our first reading test. We will review
your child’s results at our conference next week.
Math: This week we started a new unit focused on
matching sets and using a 5-frame to compare.
We learned about “same as”, “greater than” and “less than”. We learned how to play War using a deck of playing cards so we could practice recognizing
which numbers are greater and less than each other.
Science: This week we learned about rainbows and ROY
G BIV. ROY G BIV stands for the colors
of the rainbow – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet. We enjoyed looking at all the colors by using
our special glasses and a prism.
