Week
of December 11, 2017
The snow day this week certainly messed up our
plans for our Polar Express Day. It has
been rescheduled for TUESDAY,
DECEMBER 19th. Your
child should wear their pajamas to school.
Please keep in mind that they can wear tennis shoes or slippers, provided the slippers are
slip resistant or have a hard sole.
Slippers should also have a back as we travel up and down stairs during the
day.
Our Christmas
program is TUESDAY, DECEMBER 19th
at 6:30 PM. Your child needs to be
in our classroom by 6:15. After the
program please pick your child up in the classroom AND take their gingerbread
house home.
TEACHING OUR CHILDREN ABOUT COMMUNITY SERVICE…
Our Student Council is sponsoring a Giving Tree this year to benefit the
children serviced by the Peter Maurin Center.
Please consider donating new mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves. We are collecting donations until Wednesday,
December 20th.
Religion: This week we gained a better understanding of why
we celebrate Christmas. Our focus has
been on Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem.
Language Arts: This week we continued working with blending
sounds to help us decode words. We worked
with comprehension strategies that focused on drawing conclusions from
pictures, cause and effect, and recognizing important ideas while reading.
Math: This week
we continued on counting, comparing, and match sets containing 1-10 items. We have been adding groups of numbers
together and talked about key words in story problems that help you understand
whether to add or subtract numbers.
Vocabulary words: and, equals. We worked with reading word problems and
strategies on how to solve them. We are
counting by 5s, and counting backwards from 15.
