Week
of December 4, 2017
The countdown to Christmas was evident this
week. We have had such a great time
preparing by doing daily readings about the Jesse Tree and through our Advent
Calendar. We placed the first flame on
our Advent Wreath and learned that it symbolizes “hope”. We also have had so much fun tracking our
friend Gingy around the school. He has
had such great adventures as math, reading, and social studies in Junior High. He has also visited the nurse, office and
library. This week we also spent time
practicing for our Christmas Program TUESDAY, DECEMBER 19 AT 6:30. The class is doing such a great job! We are also having fun looking for our elf, Jim-Bob. He has been very sneaky this week, playing in
the Christmas tree, hanging on the flag, playing in the tissue box and hanging
upside down trying to get one of our Advent Wreath links.
TEACHING OUR CHILDREN ABOUT COMMUNITY SERVICE…
Our Student Council is sponsoring a Giving
Tree this year to benefit the children serviced by the Peter Maurin Center. Please consider donating new mittens, gloves,
hats, and scarves. We are collecting
donations until Wednesday, December 20th.
Religion: This
week we learned about appreciating that families take care of us and give us
God’s love. We also learned that we
should appreciate the friends God has given us and that God wants us to be a
good friend to others.
Language Arts: This week we worked with blending sounds to
help us decode words. We worked with
comprehension strategies that focused on drawing conclusions from pictures,
cause and effect, and recognizing important ideas while reading.
Math: This week we have focused on counting,
comparing, and match sets containing 1-10 items. We worked with reading word problems and
strategies on how to solve them. We are
counting by 5s, and counting backwards from 15.
